Hydrochloric AcidBaking SodaSodium ChlorideCarbon Dioxide Theoretical Predictions Molar Mass Hydrochloric Acid Baking Soda Sodium Chloride Carbon Dioxide 36.45 g/mol 84 g/mol 58 g/mol 44 g/mol is 1:1 mole ratio In the reaction every compound is 1:1 mole ratio
3
Theoretical Predictions CONTINUATION Ideal gas law- arrange to solve for n Since the reaction is 1:1 mole ratio we can predict that HCl and Baking soda is 0.145 moles
4
Theoretical Predictions CONTINUATION Since the reaction is 1:1 mole ratio we can predict that HCl and Baking soda is 0.145 moles Convert moles to grams Convert moles to L using M equation

Another reaction We tried another reaction that is Citric acid mix with baking soda. 10 ft And we collected some data. The car moved 10 ft maximum. Citric AcidBaking sodaSodium CitrateCarbon Dioxide Theoretical Predictions Molar Mass Citric Acid Baking soda Sodium Citrate Carbon dioxide 192 g/mol 84 g/mol 36.45 g/mol 258 g/mol 1:1 mole 3: 1 mole ratio In the reaction carbon Dioxide and Baking soda are 1:1 mole ratio BUT carbon Dioxide and Citric acid are 3: 1 mole ratio

Conclusions- Drawings START 11.5 g Baking Soda 12.0 mL HCl 14 mL water A quick drawing shows our best RUNs END – 25 ft 20 ft 15 ft 10 ft NO spew 1 st run 2 nd run 3rd run Generally the car performed well because of its unique design and intense group care. The car didn ’ t spew in the most of runs especially in the final tests. We maintained good table of data so we can know if any errors happens. The citric acid experiment failed but the car moved to 10 ft maximum after couple of runs.

Dear Dr. Skip, During this term fall 2009, we have enjoyed our times in your class. You are totally a great instructor. We have gained allot of knowledge through the whole term and the stuff covered in the class were interesting and important. You were emphasizing on materials that will help us in engineering major later on. There are many qualities that you own. You were a great helper to the students especially us. Finally, we wish you the best of the best and have great winter break with your family! Regards, Ammar Alsaeed Gina Pimentel Tyler Folkman
