Tragic Hero A protagonist (main character) who has a tragic flaw (a weakness or limitation) that brings about his/her downfall and/or death Usually a character of noble birth or high birth that suffers a fall from glory

Flat/Static Character A character who remains the same throughout a story and/or is one dimensional (constructed around a single idea/quality)

Round/Dynamic Character A character that changes (is modified by actions and experiences) throughout a story and/or is complex and capable of surprising the reader without losing credibility

(Dramatic) Foil A character who, through contrast, underscores the distinctive characteristics of another character (a character who is the opposite of another character to emphasize their differences and distinctions)
