1 Do Now: Review the following: Tragic Flaw: A flaw in the character of the protagonist of a tragedy that brings the protagonist to ruin or sorrow.

2   What is Hamlet’s tragic flaw? You must clearly define this and write a well-developed essay demonstrating both the tragic flaw and how it lead to Hamlet’s demise. This essay will be written in class. It will be graded as an exam.  In this essay, you must:  Specifically define Hamlet’s tragic flaw.  Provide an 3 examples from the text that demonstrates Hamlet’s tragic flaw. You must chronicle how Hamlet’s tragic flaw increasingly brings him ruin.  Discuss how Hamlet’s tragic flaw leads to his demise. Explain why was Hamlet destined to die in the end. Essay Topic

3   You are to use today’s class period to prepare your examples for the essay.  You should be looking for:  Moments that clearly indicate Hamlet’s flaw.  The consequences of Hamlet’s flaw  The ruin Hamlet’s flaw bring him.  NOTE:  You need to indicate the Act and Scene for each specific example you provide.  The final essay in due by the end of Thursday’s class. You may use today and tomorrow to prepare and Wednesday and Thursday’s class to write it out.  All work is to be done in class and will be collected at the end of each period each day. Prepare

4  Watch the Kenneth Branagh, Ethan Hawke and Mel Gibson versions of Hamlet. Write an essay that explores ONE of the following topics: Pick a specific aspect and compare the ways in which each actor portrays Hamlet in these moments. For example, you can discuss  the ways in which Hamlet engages with Ophelia  the dynamics of Hamlet and Gertrude in the bedroom scene  the performance of famous soliloquies  the physical depiction of Hamlet You need to refer to ALL 3 movies in your essay, and it should run about 2-3 pages.
