Our Project A questionnaire sent to Ontario Occupational and Physical Therapists. The questionnaire surveys the experiences and perceived interprofessional education needs of currently practicing therapists.
3
Rationale While there has been much discussion and research regarding interprofessional education (IPE) in the last several years, there has been a lack of focus regarding the IPE needs of occupational and physical therapists (OT & PT).
4
Methods Questionnaire Design: 18 questions with a mix of matrix, multiple choice, yes / no, 5 point Likert, and open-ended formats Designed to be completed online in less than 10 minutes Posted on SurveyMonkey © website (professional membership obtained to allow for anticipated response rate)
5
Methods Distribution: Link to questionnaire was sent out via email through: PT & OT professional organization e-blasts Email lists of Clinical Coordinators Personal email lists of investigators and supervisors Advertising leaflet with link also distributed via personal contact at Ontario Physiotherapy Association Conference in March 2007

10
Results so Far Common ideas mentioned: Knowing each other’s roles, responsibilities, scope of practice, and skills Case studies, team meetings, collaborative technique, shadowing other professions A participant quote: “Students should be able to describe the role of other professionals that they will be potentially dealing with after graduation so they are able to participate in effective teamwork.” Open-ended Question: In your opinion, what should be included in an interprofessional education program?
11
Results so Far Common ideas mentioned: Interdisciplinary approach is essential Students should receive as much interaction with other health professionals as possible A participant quote: IPE should “…facilitate understanding and respect amongst health professionals”.
