Monday, May 19 “A” Tuesday, May 20 “B” GET READY! 1 sheet of notebook paper 2 sharpened pencils science binder agenda novel
2
ASSIGNMENTS TO TURN IN
3
LAST LESSON We watched the Disney Video on Energy & took notes. We looked at examples of Rube Goldberg contraptions. We made a rough draft of our own invention.
4
WHAT ARE WE DOING TODAY? We will identify the forms of energy being transformed. We will complete our Rube Goldberg invention
5
AGENDA Write this information in your agenda. Complete your invention.
6
LEARNING TARGET You will create an “invention” that uses energy changing from one form to another.
7
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS Write the above title on your notebook paper. Think about each example. On your paper write the original form of energy & then the energy it changes into. You may NOT use your notes. For example a candle burning > chemical energy - light energy & heat energy
8
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #1 1. Using our classroom pencil sharpener changes …. energy into ….. energy.
9
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #1 1. chemical energy (from the food you ate which gives your body energy) to mechanical energy (your muscles & the machine that is the pencil sharpener)
10
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #2 2. Using an electric fan changes... into … energy.
11
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #2 answer = electrical to mechanical
12
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #3 3. Using a television changes... energy into.... energy and... energy.
13
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS #3 answer : changes electrical energy into light energy & sound energy
14
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS continued o Copy & complete the following statements. o You may not use your notes. o Place your paper in the Red Box when you finish.
15
ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS continued 4. Burning a log changes... energy into... energy and... energy 5. Toasting a slice of bread changes... energy into... energy. 6. Boiling water changes... energy into... energy. 7. photosynthesis (how a plant makes its food) 8. using a solar cell (Mrs. Passell’s radio)
16
CHAIN REACTION Look at the invention & read the description. Remember that you may not use weapons & bombs in your invention. How many different forms of energy can you find? Add this as page 8 in your binder.

18
Your assignment Decide what your invention will do. Write the description first. Use at least 5 steps and identify 3 different energy transformations. (Honors 5) Draw & label your diagram No violence, bombs, weapons, or anything dangerous. *** NO DISCUSSIONS OF YOUR IDEAS yet!!!
19
Before you turn in your invention. Did you write a heading on both the invention & the description? Did you number (1, 2 – 5) or letter (A, B – E) each step? Did you identify the energy transformations? (mechanical to light, etc.) Did you color your invention? Ask the teacher to tape your 2 papers together. Put your work beside the Red Box or finish it for homework.
