1 What is a monster? Was Frankenstein’s creation a monster? Why or why not?

2 Frankenstein through the ages.. The 1910 Edison Company Movie remained true To the book.

3 In this one Victor remains true to the book’s depiction of him. A young, arrogant but naïve man who makes this fatal mistake. The Monster is a sad figure, fully lovable at the beginning before he understands the ways of the world and goes bad. He’s articulate, intelligent, and if misguided, we sympathize with his plight.

4 What does it tell us about this era that they saw this as a monster? What was a monster to them?

6 Here he changes In this version, Frankenstein’s monster can’t speak and has no intelligence or morals. In fact the new addition of Igor with the abnormal brain makes him criminal. Victor Frankenstein becomes a mad scientist “Dr.” who is trying to unleash evil on the world.

9 In this one, the monster can speak again and doesn’t have bolts in his neck. He is again intelligent and sympathetic, but he is incredibly brutal – not only killing his prey but ripping out her heart.

16 MOST IMPORTANT!! What are the three most important qualities of a monster? That is, what are three qualities that, if they occur, you would interact with that creature and scream “OH! A Monster! Run away!”

17 Write your definition of a monster. What does it look like? What does it do? List and explain monster qualities, especially the three that are most important.

18 Monster Story Your monster story must be as long (2+ pages ) (10 pts) as you can write it in a day/class period. It must include - a gothic setting - 3 qualities (10 pts.) - romantic literature/painting characteristics - 2 qualities (10 pts.) - a monster that displays the monster qualities that you have defined. appearance (5 pts.) Actions of the creature (5 pts.) Motivations of the creature (10 pts)
