Tells us and you if your child has all the skills needed to be a good reader AND if they don’t, it tells us where we need to focus to make him/her successful Given in October, January, and April Is followed up with a letter sent home to you about your child’s progress

Phonemic Awareness Hearing and manipulating sounds Graphophonemic Knowledge Understanding letter/symbol name and linking the sound to the letter Listening Comprehension Understanding a story that is read aloud

9 BE INVOLVED: Benefits of Parental Involvement
The research overwhelmingly demonstrates that parent involvement in children's learning is positively related to achievement. Further, the research shows that the more intensively parents are involved in their children's learning, the more beneficial are the achievement effects. This holds true for all types of parent involvement in children's learning and for all types and ages of students.
