Jesus is not irritated by the crowd but takes pity on them as they are desperate for guidance - he “feeds” them on his teaching. Importance of the Story
Jesus takes pity on crowd (not irritated by them) as they are desperate for guidance - he teaches them for many hours. He “feeds” them on his teaching- they are hungry for truth. Importance of the Story Jesus takes, blesses, breaks & hands out food - it feeds, strengthens & satisfies the people, just like the Eucharist feeds, strengthens & satisifies us spiritually by Jesus’ body. The Miracle of feeding the 5000 shows… Jesus the teacher Jesus as the miracle worker (&symbolism) Jesus as the New Moses Jesus is the awaited Messiah Symbol of the Eucharist The Messianic Banquet Jesus recognised & responded to physical needs. A huge crowd was fed by little food. 5 loaves 2 fish ( 5 books of Moses, 2 tablets of 10Cs) People felt like an army in 50’s/ 100’s following a leader After leaving Egypt, Moses prayed to God for food – God sent manna from heaven every day, (except Sunday).
