What is Source Attribution? Source attribution is used when referring to information used from print and online resources. It is how you will cite your sources for your argument writing piece.

Why Do I Have to Use It? Source attribution is used in order to avoid plagiarism. When using source attribution, three pieces of information may be used: –Name of the author –Title of the piece –Name of the website

Citing the Author According to Elizabeth Winchester, habitat loss, plant- killing chemicals and extreme weather are the three biggest threats to monarch butterlies. “The monarch is the only butterfly known to make a two- way migration,” stated author Elizabeth Winchester, an expert on the subject. The pattern of migration for monarch butterflies is to travel from Canada or the northern part of the United States to California or Mexico (Elizabeth Winchester).

Citing the Title In the article, “Monarchs Take Flight,” experts noted the following threats to the survival of butterflies: habitat loss, plant-killing chemicals and extreme weather. Two-way migration only occurs with monarch butterflies according to the article, “Monarchs Take Flight.” Monarch butterflies migrate from Canada or the northern part of the United States to California or Mexico (“Monarchs Take Flight”).
