PGMS PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB EXPEDITION TO OAKLAND CEMETERY ***SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2014*** On Saturday, November 15, 2014, get ready for a photographic adventure like no other as we travel down to the heart of Atlanta to a historic site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places…The Historic Oakland Cemetery! Oakland is much more than an outstanding example of a Victorian garden cemetery. It is also a magnificent sculpture garden, botanical garden, flourishing wildlife habitat, public park and a picturesque setting like no other. Some of Georgia’s most famous legends are laid to rest in Atlanta’s oldest and most scenic cemetery. You will be able to visit the gravesite of Gone With the Wind author, Margaret Mitchell, golfing great, Bobby Jones, former mayor of Atlanta, Maynard Jackson, as well as explore the final resting place of nearly 7,000 Civil War soldiers (yes…Civil War soldiers!). We will meet outside the Visitor Center at 9:30 a.m. You will need to arrange your own transportation. We will meet you there. We welcome parents, siblings, friends and other family members. This should be a real treat for all, so plan on bringing the whole family and then some! There is no charge to visit the cemetery, although they do take donations in the Visitor Center, if you would like to contribute. Parking is also free. Of course you will need your camera, plenty of memory if you’re shooting digital and at least 3-5 rolls of film if you’re shooting 35mm. Make sure your batteries are good for the duration or bring some extras. If you enjoy making gravestone rubbings, what a wonderful opportunity you will have to do so here! Bring along some plain white paper and either several pencils or charcoal crayons. This is also a wonderful opportunity to practice your Black/White Photography! We should finish up our morning of fun and unique picture taking around 12:00ish. (Over)
