Hygrometer

Used to measure moisture content Measures the humidity of any gas such as air Francesco Folli invented the more practical hygrometer in1664 Some hygrometers use hair to determine moisture content They are sometimes used in incubators Leonardo da Vinci developed the first hygrometer in the 1400s

Thermometer

 Galileo Galilei is one of the inventors  Used to measure air temperature  Is a closed glass tube with a scale(s)  Mercury or alcohol are sometimes the liquid in the thermometer  Experiented on in 1610  Not always used for weather

Barometer

 Measures air pressure  Designed by Torricelli  First built in 1643  Low pressure usually means rain is coming  High pressure usually means clear skies  Barographs record the data found on the barometer

Weather Balloons

 Was invented in the late 1800s  Are similar to the originals  They were invented to store weather data  Weigh about 2.2 pounds  Are similar looking to a hot air balloon  Rise more than 15 miles while collecting data

Anemometer

 Leon Battista Alberti invented it  Invented in 1450  Records the revolutions of the cups and calculated the wind velocity  Can be divided into two classes  Very similar to the first invented one  Anemos is a Greek word that means wind

Weather Satellite

 Successfully launched on April 1, 1960  Was televised from space  Weighs 270 pounds  Functioned for only 78 days(total)  Sends thousands of pictures to Earth  Used to monitor the weather and climate of earth

Weather Radar

 Shows where precipitation is occurring and how hard its falling  Sends out pulses of microwave energy  The energy reflects of raindrops or snowflakes  More that 100 government run weather radars  Very useful for predicting storms

Weather Map

 Displays meteorological features across a particular area  Have been in use since the mid-19 th century  Help locate weather fronts  Can show where jet streams are located

Rain Curtain

 Patent issued in 1995  Pocket portable  Has an inflatable ring cap  Hand free protection  Gives customers their own space  Sheer shower curtain walls  Alternative to the bulky umbrella
