Origin of HIV/AIDS It was originated in non-human primates in Sub-Saharan Africa and was transferred to humans during the late 19th or early 20th century. Aids is caused from HIV destroying many, many T-cells. 2

Prevention HIV is transmitted through the blood, semen, genital fluids, or breast milk of a person infected with HIV(Mayo Clinic, 2013). Here are a few ways you can prevent HIV: Wear a condom every time you have sex. Consider using the drug Truvada Tell your sexual partner you have HIV. Use a clean needle If you are pregnant, get medical care right away. 4

Treatments There's no cure for HIV/AIDS, but a variety of drugs can be used in combination to control the virus (MayoClinic, 2013). In the 80s there was no known treatments and the victims only lived about 2-3 weeks once infected by the virus. Now there are 31 treatments for HIV, but not a single one of them can cure it. 5

Prevalence HIV is found more prevalent in less developed countries in Southern Africa. HIV is found mostly in African, Caucasian, or Hispanic people. 6
