3 Teaching Ideas Teach the target vocabulary first. Before using with your student, preview the book, especially the animations to best support communication opportunities. The adult should maintain control of the mouse to produce the action. Use a 5- second time delay after transitioning to a slide to allow the student time to initiate with the core verb “take,” before clicking the mouse. Prompt as minimally as possible. Skip articles like “the” and “a” until student has mastered the core vocabulary. Look up other words; pivot off the core vocabulary to include fringe (e.g., “Take yellow” or “Take feather”).
