Video: Apple plays H.264 video through the QuickTime player, while Adobe encodes it and uses the hardware accelerators. 75% of video on the internet is in Flash.
Speed: QuickTime + HTML5 outperforms Flash only on MAC/Safari, because MAC does not allow Adobe to take advantage of the hardware acceleration. On all other platforms Flash performs faster.

"HTML5 is still a standard in progress and the makers of it say it will be five to ten years at least before it's done, so it's too early to make any comparisons at this time," a Microsoft spokesperson says.
