Pride and Covetousness Chapter 14 Lesson 1
2
Vice A vice is a sinful habit There are seven capital vices (capital means head or source.) All sins and vices spring from the capital vices. The capital vices are major obstacles in our path to holiness and we must learn to recognize and avoid them.

Pride An excessive, disordered love of oneself. Why is extreme love of oneself wrong? It leads us to prefer our own desires to those of God and our neighbors. Should we be proud of our accomplishments? We can be justifiably proud of our accomplishments when we recognize that they are the result of God’s gifts and talents in our lives. However, pride in our accomplishments is sinful if we fail to recognize God’s work in our lives and thank him for our talents.
4
Sins of pride Placing our desires before those of God or others Believing that everything revolves around us (not recognizing the needs of others) Not being charitable
5
Covetousness Greed or uncontrolled desire for earthly possessions. To what things do we find it easy to be too attached? 1.Money 2.Power 3.Popularity 4.Possessions (e.g., clothes, cars, games, etc.)
