WHAT IS ACCOUNTABILITY? Accountability is defined as “an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions”

ABSENTEEISM If you have been absent....see your teacher before or after class to obtain your work. If you are GOING to miss a class... see your teacher before or after class to get your work BEFORE going.

RATIONALE How it should be done: I am going on a field trip tomorrow... What work do I need? I was sick yesterday... What did I miss? How it should not be done: I was on a field trip... What did I miss? I have a missing assignment, but I was sick that day!

EXPECTATIONS Take responsibility for your actions. Represent yourself positively. Think before you act, don’t be impulsive. Be your own person, don’t be passive. Accept consequences for your decisions and actions. Go beyond the expectation.

RATIONALE How it should be done: I broke the beaker, I’m sorry. Can you please pass the scissors? [Scissors passed hand to hand] Return supplies to designated areas, clean up work area. How it should not be done: It just broke. Heads up! Bell rang, “I’m gone!”

PRIDE Take pride in your work, turn in your best work. Take pride in your grades, check infinite campus. Take pride in how you carry yourself, people are watching you and remember the negative more than the positive. Do you want your future employer, college professor, or spouse to see you right now?

RATIONALE How it should be done: Turn in your own work. Take time to do your work carefully. Check your grade weekly. How it should not be done: Can’t we turn in one paper? I turned it in, I should get full credit. My mom said I’m missing something.

SCENARIO 1: ABSENTEEISM I was suspended. My mom never came to get my work, what can I do? We went on field trip/vacation, can I have an extra day to turn in my work?

SCENARIO 2: EXPECTATIONS During the lab period, one student does all the work and the rest of the group sits around and talks. The group feels they should get the same score because they were all part of the group.

SCENARIO 3: PRIDE Bobby always does his work but it is hard to read and is usually wrong. Bobby cannot understand why he did not get full credit.
