October 7, 2005 f t CEPCA Defines Coexistence (CEPCA 制定共存标准 ) f t Mutual Interference Coexistence AH HHH AAA By pragmatically addressing the needs of all PLC applications, CEPCA is creating an impartial coexistence specification. ( 为所有 PLC 应用需要, CEPCA 制定一个公平的共存标准。 )
10
October 7, 2005 CEPCA Goals ( 目标 ) 1)Develop PLC coexistence standard ( 开发制定 PLC 共存标准 ) Oct. 6, 2005Initial specification approved Q4 2005Evaluation and field trials Q1 2006Publish final specification 2) Promote coexistence in EU, US & China ( 在美国, 欧共体, 中国等宣传推广 ) Actively recruit US, EU & Chinese companies ( 积极募招新成员 ) Participate in international standards ( 参与国际标准 ) 3) Encourage PLC deregulation in Japan ( 鼓励日本政府开放 PLC 管制 ) Government desires coexistence

October 7, 2005 Coexistence = Reliability ( 共存双赢 ) No coexistence = Product returns ( 没有共存 = 产品退货 ) Nearly all solutions use same spectrum CE and Power Utilities use same solutions CEPCA specification ensures coexistence (CEPCA 规格保证共存 ) Minimize CE product returns Reduce Power Utility service calls No single standard exists – Solution providers must demand coexistence ( 由于不是单一标准, 提供商必须要求共存 )

It ’ s a long wait, >18 months … ( 这是漫长的等待 ) …and UWB is taking longer Solutions exist for products now ( 目前已有多种技术方案 ) Different applications have different optimal solutions Waiting makes coexistence more difficult For many companies, waiting is impractical CEPCA supports standards (CEPCA 支持标准 ) CEPCA is submitting proposals to IEEE, PLC-J Participation encourages cooperation via coexistence CEPCA consensus speeds the standardization process Rigorous review refines CEPCA proposals

October 7, 2005 f t CEPCA Solution has 3 Elements 1)Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) 2)Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) 3)Commonly-Distributed Coordination Function (CDCF) f t Mutual Interference Coexistence AH HHH AAA
18
October 7, 2005 Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) FDM gives each system exclusive use of a frequency band, making it possible for each system to guarantee QoS precisely. Existing PLC modems each use different frequency bands; therefore, dynamic FDM is required for efficient coexistence. time frequency Access In-Home1 Access In-Home1 time frequency In-Home2 In-Home1 In-Home2 In-Home1 Access In-Home1 OR
19
October 7, 2005 Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) In-Home PLC collides with every signal inside the LV transformer. This implies that a home system with QoS should transmit through access system openings, making TDM control complicated. But, best effort-type modems can work well with TDM. Therefore, an efficient TDM mechanism supporting both QoS and best-effort communication is required. time frequency In-Home1 In-Home2 collision with all access signals A A A A A A H

October 7, 2005 1)FDM/TDM Hybrid Mechanism Flexible FDM is required for Access/In-Home coexistence QoS-oriented TDM is required for HD video Guarantees QoS and prevents collisions 2)Commonly-Distributed Coordination Function (CDCF) As robust as the content being transmitted Minimize impediment to data channel speed Easy to implement time frequency Access In-Home1 In-Home2 CDCF CDCFCDCF CEPCA Coexistence Summary
