There is an museum called Le Compa. This museum demonstrates the different ways of agriculture, specifically the different machines used, in both past and present. It is also great for kids. SPECIALTY FOODS: - SEAFOOD!! - Chartres is known for the many restaurants that specialize in seafood - (i.e. Le Phare des Baleines, L'Etal du Pêcheur, and A La Fine MaréeLe Phare des BaleinesL'Etal du PêcheurA La Fine Marée Chartres has very healthy markets that contain goods such as specialty seafood, a variety of fruits and vegetables, and a numerous amount of dairy products.

Many ancient churches and cathedrals have beautiful stained glass murals. (i.e.: The Blue Virgin) The Cathedral of Chartres is known for its complex labyrinth and multiple gateways used for entering and exiting. The Cathedral of Chartres Rose Window dates back to the 13 th century, while the architecture of the Cathedral was built in the 15 th century.

Chartres is a small city located inside of France, more specifically in Centre. It’s department is Eure-et-Loir. (1 hour away from Paris.) It is built on the left bank of the Eure River. Total land area: 6.51 sq. mi. Population: 39, 159 (as of 2008) Over the past 20 years Chartres has become a huge landmark for historical purposes, but also a gigantic tourist attraction.

Chartres was burnt by the Romans in 858 and unsuccessfully besieged by them in 911. Chartres changed hands with many countries (England, France, Germany etc.) During World War II the city suffered heavy bombing, but the Cathedral of Chartres was saved by an American Army. Chartres was finally liberated in 1944 by the U.S.
