Type’s in Scripture Type : A person or thing in the Old Testament which foreshadows a person or thing in the New Testament. Type of Christ : A person in the OT that behaves in a way that corresponds to Jesus’ character or actions in the NT.

Glimpses of Christ’s Birth Through Isaac’s Birth 1)Both Isaac and Jesus were children of promise and their births were foretold many years prior to their actual day of birth. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14

Glimpses of Christ’s Birth Through Isaac’s Birth 2) Both births were announced by God himself and both mothers believed the births to be physically impossible. Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old? Genesis 18:13 How will this be, since I am a virgin? Luke 1:34

Glimpses of Christ’s Birth Through Isaac’s Birth 3) Both Isaac and Jesus were named by God himself before they were born. Your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. Genesis 17:19 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. Glimpses of Christ’s Sacrifice Through Isaac’s Sacrifice 1) Both Isaac and Jesus were called ‘only beloved sons’ by God himself and both in the context of sacrifice. Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love…Genesis 22:2 This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17

Glimpses of Christ’s Sacrifice Through Isaac’s Sacrifice 2) Both Isaac and Jesus carried the wood of their own sacrifice on their backs and up a mountain. Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son.…Genesis 22:6 So they took Jesus and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull… John 19:17

Glimpses of Christ’s Sacrifice Through Isaac’s Sacrifice 3) Both Isaac and Jesus were willing sacrifices seeking to fulfill the will of their father. Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.…Genesis 22:9 “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” Matt.26:39

Glimpses of Christ’s Sacrifice Through Isaac’s Sacrifice 4) God provided the sacrifice in both accounts. “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” Genesis 22:7 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Glimpses of Christ’s Sacrifice Through Isaac’s Sacrifice 5) Both sons returned to sonship with their fathers after three days. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. Genesis 22:4 They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear…Acts 10:40

Gospel Impacting Differences 1)Isaac would have to live for the promise to be fulfilled; Jesus would have to die for the promise to be fulfilled. 2)Isaac ushered in the old covenant through his birth; Jesus ushered in the new covenant through his death.
