4. * With a partner… * Write down a list of emotions in your comp. book (e.g. fear vs. terror). * Express these emotions using body language only. * Volunteers?

6. * Practice--With a partner… * Portray the scene: Horrible first date. * Silent—Not charades! Try to create whatever you think the mood of the scene would be. * Volunteers?

7. * Real Deal--With a partner… * Choose a strip of paper with a situation on it. * Don’t share you’re scene with other groups! * 5 minutes to prepare. Create the dynamics of the scene. * Don’t forget entrances, exits, hand gestures, facial expressions ---BODY LANGUAGE! * Audience guesses scene.

8. * Use body language to create changes in tone & mood in a scene.

9. * In groups of 3… * Scene: Elizabeth, John Proctor & Mary Warren. Beginning of Act 2 begins with Proctor’s line “Woman…I’ll not have your suspicion any more” (54) and ends with Mary Warren’s line, “[Sarah Good] tried to kill me many times, Goody Proctor!” (57). * 10 minutes to prepare * Again, this isn’t charades. Don’t forget entrances, exits, hand gestures, facial expressions, etc. * Volunteers perform—Walk through scene.

10. 1) “Chunk up” the scene. What happens at the beginning, middle and end of the scene? * 2) Know the scene well enough that you don’t need to rely upon the text too much. I’m not expecting this to be a “line-by-line” portrayal of the scene. * 3) Think about the emotions that you need to portray in each of these chunks. Does your body language reflect these emotions? * 4) Focus on the scene direction notes. These provide HUGE tips on movement within the scene.
