Jim Crow Laws : is practices, institutions, or laws that separate African Americans and White people.

Jim Crow originally referred to a black person in an old song.

Jim Crow Laws first developed in a few Northern states in the early 1800s. It was later adopted by the southern states. The term came into use in the 1880s. Racial segregation was legal at the time.

The Supreme Court supported segregation. Example. Plessey v. Ferguson. In the 1896 the Court supported Louisiana law separating whites and blacks in a {supposedly separate but equal} rail road car. For more than 50 years people used the separate but equal rule.

Ku Klux Klan was a terrorist group against blacks. They did not like the idea of blacks having freedom. The KKK extremely supported the Jim Crow laws.

Blacks protested that everyone should be treated equal.

In the case of brown v. board of education the supreme court reversed their earlier decision. {Plessey v. Ferguson}

The civil rights act of 1964 and 1968 banned Jim Crow practices. Now whites and blacks work together.
