Bellwork  Quarter I review: What is the contrapositive of the statement below? All vertical angles are congruent.  If the point P(3, -2) is moved on the x & y- coordinate plane up 4 units and to the left 1, what is the resulting ordered pair?

3.1 Congruent Figures  Students will be able to name the congruent corresponding parts of congruent figures.  Students will also be able to transform a point on the x and y-coordinate plane.

Congruent Polygons (Defn)  Toolbox: Two polygons (sided figures) are congruent if all their corresponding parts are congruent.  In general terms, polygons are congruent if one of them should be placed on top of the other, they would fit exactly.

Example 1 (Don’t write)  Identify and name the congruent triangles.

Example 2 (Don’t write)  Identify the congruent triangles and their six congruent parts.

Reflexive Property (Toolbox!) Any segment or angle is congruent to itself! Example:

Example 3 (Don’t write)  If …  Which segment is congruent to ?  Which angle is congruent to <HIG?  Which segment is congruent to ?  Is ?

Example 4  Plot points P(-4,0), S(3, 5), and T (5,0).  If STP is shifted 3 units down and 2 units to the right find the coordinates of P’, S’, and T’.

Example 5  Plot points P(-4,0), S(3, 5), and T (5,0).  If STP is reflected over the x-axis write the coordinates of P’, S’, and T’.

Example 6  Plot points P(-4,0), S(3, 5), and T (5,0).  If STP is reflected over the y-axis, write the coordinates of P’, S’, and T’.

Example 7  Plot points P(-4,0), S(3, 5), and T (5,0).  If STP is rotated clockwise 180 degrees around the origin, write the coordinates of P’, S’, and T’.

Ticket to Leave Using the point (2, 3), perform the following transformations and give the resulting ordered pair. 1. Shift the point down 1, to the right 2. 2. Reflect the point over the x-axis. 3. Reflect the point over the y-axis. 4. Rotate the point 180 degrees about the origin.

Homework  Pg. 114 # 1-5 all  Quiz NEXT Thursday over 3.1-3.3 & 3.8
