2 MOTOR SECTION D-.116RW Pin M and Box M GAUGES: Gagemaker JSS System

3 What JSS can do for you! Eliminate costly ring and plug gauges.
Quantify your connections interferences. Quantify your ring & plug sizes for wear. Eliminate delays at vendors due to lack of gages. Eliminates inaccurate home made soft gages. Can inspect used connections for Fatigue and wear.

4 Connection Sizes were derived by the crest diameter at the pin shoulder.

8 Now lets measure the Pin Connection
Do we have connection drawings that have the following? Pin Crest or Root diameters at the shoulder? The JSS Acme Calculator handles. A. Measure pin no drawing B. Measure box no drawing C. Measure pin with drawing D. Measure box with drawing

9 Pin Crest Diameter Pin Thread Height

10

11 The JSS Calculator is used to calculate the gauge setting values to measure the pin and box connections with or with out product drawings.

12 Sizing the pin connection.
Rings and JSS pitch diameter gauges both measure the root diameter.

13 The LPP template locates a gauge plane
The LPP template locates a gauge plane .875” off the pin shoulder from which to measure the pitch diameter.

14 Using the LPP template to locate the gauge plane on a pin.
Place the template into the thread and rotate around the pin thread until it makes contact with the shoulder. Using a sharpie mark the thread next to the notch on the template.

PD-8001 Measuring the root diameter at .875” off the shoulder. Place the fixed ball at the sharpie mark and position the indicator ball down the taper groove.

18 Now lets measure the Box Connection
Do we have connection drawings that have the following? Box Crest diameters at the face or shoulder? NO Box Blanking diameters. The JSS Acme Calculator handles. A. Measure pin no drawing B. Measure box no drawing C. Measure pin with drawing D. Measure box with drawing

21 Box Crest at Shoulder Box Crest Thread Height

22 Sizing the box connection.
MRP-2002 and Working Plug measure the box crest diameter.

23 Working plug contacts the box thread crest and clears the root.

24 MRP-2002 gauge is used to measure the box crest diameter at
MRP-2002 gauge is used to measure the box crest diameter at .875” off the face. We do not use ball contacts on the major diameter since the thread crest interferes with the pin roots.

25 Using a. 5625” set block to position the shoe center at
Using a .5625” set block to position the shoe center at .875” off the face.

26 Insert the gauge into the box and measure the crest diameter.

27 Ring and Plug Gauge Calibration
The Master and Working Plugs are made to the same dimensions. Both are dimensioned to size the box crest at the face. The Master Plug sizes the Working ring. The Standoff value of the working ring to the master plug is .450”. When the working ring is threaded on to a pin connection the standoff value is .500”. This creates the .005” interference in the connection. Below is the order sequence for sizing the final pin and box connections.

30 Master Ring on Master Plug

31 Master Plug Gauge

32 Master Ring Gauge

33 Working Gauges must have Master Ring and Plugs to calibrate them for wear!

34 Input the Crest Diameter of Plug at Wear Ring Face = 5.931”.
Subtract (2) thread heights and it produces the box crest at the shoulder = 5.731”

35 Input the Crest Diameter at Face of Ring = 5.6841”.
.050” less standoff to Master Plug is what creates the connections .005” interference. Input the Crest Diameter at Face of Ring = ”. This sizes the pin root at .500” off the shoulder

36 Master Plug calibrates the working ring gauge.

37 The JSS system can calibrate your plug gauges and measure your pin connections too!
The tool steel block projects the plug gage face outward for the LPP template to contact. The steel block mimics a pin shoulder, creating a reference point or datum to locate the gage plane for inspection

42 Level 30 Thread and Gauge Designer figuring all this out.
Note the lack of hair!!!! There has to be a way to explain this mess!!! The 8 steps were created!! A New Acme Gauge Setting Calculator was born!! A. Measure pin no drawing B. Measure box no drawing C. Measure pin with drawing D. Measure box with drawing E. Measure plug no drawing F. Measure ring no drawing G. Measure plug with drawing H. Measure ring with drawing
