What is Cosmetic Dentistry? The branch of dentistry dealing with the appearance of the teeth Dental Bonding Teeth Whitening Porcelain Veneers Dental Implants Bridges and Crowns Full Mouth Restorations

Teeth Whitening Over the counter Cost: $5-50 These are like sticky strips Crest Whitestrips that can be bought over the counter to whiten teeth. Bleaching Trays $100-400 With these your cosmetic dentist takes a mold of your teeth and makes bleaching trays to fit them, almost like mouth guards. Then you buy the whitening gel to put into them and wear them at your convenience. In-office whitening $650 per visit This procedure involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high- concentration peroxide gel, applied to the teeth by the cosmetic dentist or trained technician after the gums have been protected with a paint-on rubber dam

Porcelain Veneers Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped or out of alignment Veneers are permanent and a portion of the tooth is trimmed back before they are applied To keep them in place you have to avoid sharp impacts to the mouth and chewing or biting on pens, fingernails. The upside of porcelain veneers is that they’re stain- resistant and durable. The downside is they’re the costliest of straightening options. And the usual cost of veneers can run from $1,500 to $3,000 per tooth.

Crowns and Bridges A crown, also known as a “cap”, is used to restore a tooth that would otherwise be in danger of breaking. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment The crowns are placed at the top of a metal spoke and then are cemented in. A bridge is used when a tooth is missing and usually involves putting a crown on either side of the missing tooth and a fake tooth suspended between the crown.

Affects on People’s Lives Dr. Richard Stanley, a cosmetic dentist, says that in initial consultations his patients are very unhappy and some are even suicidal People say that because of their smile teeth don’t want to go out in public, don’t want to associate with other human beings. The process of a full mouth restoration is usually over a time period of 2 months and 20,000 dollars After the process though, all of Dr. Stanley’s patients are 100% happier. Dr. Stanley says his patients are “Full of joy and thankfulness-there is never a dry eye in the patients, him, or the office staff when a smile is restored”
