As clinicians, we are able to provide compassionate care for patients. As scientists, we can investigate the pathological basis of disease and discover new treatments for devastating illnesses. The patients in my clinical program motivate me to research the mechanisms of brain-tumor development, and my laboratory research addresses basic questions about the human brain and brain tumors...With the support of the NIH and the HHMI, I hope to have the opportunities and resources to investigate and develop new ways to fight this disease.” ALUMNI PERSPECTIVES Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa, M.D. HHMI Medical Fellow, 1997-98 Professor of Neurosurgery Professor of Oncology Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

It was truly a life-altering year. I am now an independent investigator with a research program focused on integrating chemical genomic, genetic, and proteomic approaches to discover new protein targets and lead compounds for cancer therapy.” ALUMNI PERSPECTIVES Kimberly Stegmaier, M.D. HHMI Medical Fellow, 1994 Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School and Principal Investigator, Pediatric Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
