2. By the end of the period, scholars will be able to complete thirteen questions by working independently and in groups in order to demonstrate understanding of classroom procedures. Today’s Objective

3. Tardiness: Don’t be late!  Beginning next week, the classroom door will be locked when the bell rings.  DO NOT knock on the door once the door is locked.  Go get a tardy pass and return to class. Be quiet when you enter, as class will have already begun.

4.  Worksheets will be provided on the desk when you first walk in the door.  Please take a worksheet.  There will not be a worksheet every day. Please continue to your seat if there is no worksheet. Worksheets

5.  When the bell rings, you must go directly to your seat. The warm-up assignment will be written on the board.  The warm-up is a timed, graded assignment. For example, you may be given seven minutes to write a paragraph, or ten minutes to complete a test- practice. The warm-up will be collected after this time has passed. If you have not finished, you will not be given additional time to complete this assignment. 56 Minutes Isn’t Much Time!

6.  Students must walk directly to their seats, sit down, and begin working once the bell rings.  There is simple NO TIME for wandering, chatting, goofing off, horseplay, etc.  If you have questions about grades, please see me at lunch in room 130. So, what does this mean?

7. The Bell  The bell is used to get your attention.  Students MUST BE quiet and listening to the teacher after they hear the sound of the bell.

8.  Participation cards are used to earn extra credit.  Write your name and period on the participation card.  When the teacher catches you doing something well, she will sign your participation card.  If you do not have your participation card, you may not earn extra credit.  If you lose your participation card, previous signatures cannot be replaced.  You may pick up a new participation card at lunch in room 130 if yours is lost. 9.  You will receive four bathroom passes a semester. If you lose your bathroom passes, they may not be replaced until the following semester.  Present bathroom pass to the teacher (no need to cut it out!) and she will cross it off.  You will then receive a separate SHS hall pass.  Keep in mind that unused bathroom passes are worth five points each in extra credit- that’s a total of 20 points at the end of the semester! 10. Am I going to be call on in this class?  The short answer: YES  The long answer: Your seats are color coded. Look at the letter on the desk to see what color you are (red, purple, or green).  Individuals and groups from each side of the room will be called upon randomly using equity sticks.

11. But, what if I don’t know the answer? If the teacher calls on you, you may either answer the question on your own or ask the teacher, “May I consult my partner?” If you choose to consult your partner you will be given thirty seconds to ask your partner for help.

12.  Your “A/B” partner is the person seated next to you.  You will be completing pair share activities with this individual.  A/B partners will be changed about once every two weeks. A/B Partners

13.  Introduce yourself to your A/B partner.  On the worksheet provided, write the following:  1. One thing you and your partner have in common.  2. One thing you and your partner do not have in common. A/B Partner Task

14.  You are now seated in a group of four; this is your quad.  You will be working on many assignments and projects with this group.  You will also be participating in many competitions with this group. QUADS

15.  All group members must introduce themselves to their teammates.  Choose a name for your group.  On the worksheet provided, create a rhyme that describes your group.  Directions: The rhyme must be at least four lines and your team name must be stated in your rhyme.  All group members must write the rhyme on their papers.  One team member will be called upon to share with the class.
