By: Cariera O and Karlie A Chapter 4 Decimal multiplication and division

Decimal Product Dividend Divisor Quotient 1.Find the product or quotient. 2.Estimate the product or quotient. 3.Round a decimal. 4.Find the sum or difference. Review Words

vocabulary words Review the content When you multiply a decimal and a whole number, the number of decimal places in the product is the same as the number of decimal places in the decimal factor. EXAMPLE: 0.006 x 7 = 0.042 Write a zero as a placeholder so that the answer has three decimal places. Commutative property of multiplication. Associative property of multiplication. 4.1 Multiplying decimals and whole numbers.

Vocabulary wordsReview content You can multiply a number and a sum by multiplying the number by each part of the sum and then adding these products. The same property applies with subtraction. Example: Numbers 3 ( 4+6 ) = 3( 4 ) + 3(6)  Distributive property 4.2 The distributive property

Vocabulary wordsReview content Multiplying decimals as you do whole numbers. Then place the decimal point. The number of decimal places in the product is the total number of decimal places in the factors. 3.14 x 15.6 = 48.984 Factor 4.3 Multiplying decimal

Vocabulary wordsReview content When dividing a decimal by a whole number, place the decimal point in the quotient above the point in the dividend. 32.4 divided by 6 = 5.4 Dividend Divisor Quotient 4.4 Dividing by whole numbers

VocabularyReview Content To multiply whole number power of ten, you will move the decimal point one place to the right for each zero in the whole number power of ten. To divide whole number power of ten, you would move the decimal point one place to the left for each zero in the whole number power of ten. 3.995 x 100 = 399.5 Power exponent 4.5 Multiplying and Dividing by powers of Ten

VocabularyReview Content When you divide by decimal, multiply both the divisor and the dividend by a power of ten that will make the divisor a whole number. 2.5 divided by 3.75 = 1.5 Dividend Divisor Quotient 4.6 Dividing by decimals

VocabularyReview Content Units of Mass: The mas of an object is the amount of matter it has. The gram (g) is a metric unit of mass. Two other metric units of mass are the milligram (mg) and the kilogram (kg). Gram Milligram Kilogram Liter Milliliter kiloliter 4.7 Mass and Capacity

VocabularyReview Content You can change from one unit to another in the metric system by multiplying or dividing by power of ten. Chang to a smaller unit by mutipying. Meter Gram liter 4.8 Changing Metric Units
