1 IDEM OFFICE OF AIR QUALITY PRIORITIES FOR 2004

2 2 Accomplishments In 2003 Achieved federal approval of Prevention of Significant Deterioration Permit program. Revised lead licensing rules to include work practices for lead removal projects not currently covered and make licenses good for a three year term. Obtained grant and settlement funds to support diesel retrofit projects; retrofitted school buses in Hammond. No late permits for fifth straight year. Made considerable progress issuing first time Title V permits. Made recommendation to US EPA on 8-hour ozone nonattainment areas and on implementation issues. Worked with interested parties to clarify definition of “emission data” and trade secret exemption to public records requirements.

4 4 Ozone Designations and Planning U.S. EPA will issue final ozone designations by April 15, 2004. States will have three years to complete plans. IDEM has began to work with areas where additional clean air measures are likely to be needed (Central Indiana and Northwest Indiana) New source review. http://www.in.gov/idem/air/8hourstandard/index.html
