Biosecurity Policies and Procedures

Violations Zero Tolerance!!! Any body who fails to follow entry procedure will be terminated immediately Failing to report a violation may be subject to disciplinary action or termination

Why so important? Suspect or breaks Extra lab costs (bleeding, shipping, extra handling, etc.) Quarantine $500,000 to $1 million loss for the farm Sow death loss Abortions Piglet death loss

Policy Cannot care for other pigs or live with anybody who does Contact with other pigs (fairs, sales, etc.) 3 nights downtime Contact with other pig people 1 night downtime Other livestock (horses, cattle, goats) OK, but must take care of after work. Any questions or violations need to brought to the attention of PSM, LLC immediately

Entering Follow downtime rules Not for sure…ask your manager!!! Shower in/Shower out Once in, do not cross the clean/dirty line If you do, MUST shower back in

Showering In Leave cell phones and valuables at home or locked in your vehicle Leave shoes, hats, and jackets in the hallway Lock door behind you Remove all clothing (including socks, underwear, jewelry, watches, etc.) and leave on the dirty side Only glasses may be showered through Wash yourself from head to toe using soap All clothing and footwear to wear in the unit are provided on the clean side

Glasses on the Farm Must be washed when showering in or out Eye glass straps are provided, upon request If you choose not to use them, the farm is not responsible for damage or loss

Lunches Pails or coolers used at another farm are not allowed Brand new or clean one will work Spray with disinfect before being passed through window Suggest using a hard sided pail No raw pork products

Personal items Any personal clothing or footwear must be NEW All items must be fogged in prior to entering the farm After the probation period, PSM will pay up to $20.00 per year for footwear Receipt with farm name must be given to HR Management reserves the right to inspect personal belongings at any time

Before the 1 st day Clean you vehicle inside and out PSM will pay for it Make sure to wash wheel wells and places where you touch a lot (pedals, steering wheel, etc.) Must be inspected for by a vet or other trained employee Follow the downtime guidelines

1 st Day Farm manager will meet you outside Make sure you understand what the policies are regarding biosecurity Make sure someone shows you where the fogging chamber, showers, pass through window, etc. are located If you’re not sure….Ask Questions!!!

Isolation The last thing of the day Once you have been into the isolation area, you may NOT re-enter the barn the same day Cannot be moved into the barn unless cleared by the vet
