2. WHAT ARE THE GOALS AND TASKS OF YOUR BUCKET WORK? Scope 2 Goals: Provide in-service to teachers across the district in order to: To collaborate through cross grade level conversations To build a common “math” vocabulary To gain a better understanding of the 8 mathematical practices To build Coherence from one grade level to the next. To build a network of people who can spread the message To find new math strategies that work.

3.  TASKS 3 Planning and facilitating the “Achieve More with the Core” workshops: August, October, January, and May NTI-Network Team Institute: Albany, October 9-10 and December 9-12 AMTNYS Conference in Syracuse, November 10 NCTM Conference in Richmond: November 12-14

4. WHAT WAS THE IMPACT OF THE BUCKET WORK? Impact 4 How did educators benefit from the work? 8 Mathematical Practices are posted in classrooms in student friendly language and given to students in bookmark form or cardstock to place in binders; Alignment of standards from one grade level to the next to clarify standards and eliminate gaps; Content continuum across grade levels; Pamphlets were distributed with questioning techniques that are aligned to the 8 mathematical practices; How were student outcomes impacted? Increased awareness of the mathematical practices; Students identify the 8 mathematical practices in lessons; Questioning techniques learned at the NTI conference used to pinpoint and correct student misconceptions in formative assessments; Increased student engagement through more meaningful collaborative group work.

5. Challenges and Triumphs 5 Challenges: Full grade level representation at workshops; Need for more resources; Common Language. Triumphs: Collaborative conversations; Positive feedback from workshops; Common goals.

6. WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR ONGOING COMMUNICATION AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE WORK? Sustainability 6 Retooling workshops for January and May; Number Talks is coming; AFT Thinking Math - summer learning sessions; Math Design Team will be working with curriculum documents to identify prerequisite skills and prioritize standards; Build a common language/vocabulary; Use kid and parent friendly language; Adapt and/or adopt materials; Make a “placemat” for learning by prioritizing learning; Collaborate with other schools.
