3. Guided Reading in Kindergarten
Start with “a is for apple”; just the letter name w/ no sounds
Top to bottom/trace it/say it
Correct student if not top to bottom
Use of finger is important/Brain based
Work on sounds/Clap syllables/Work w/rhymes
Discuss pictures/Shared reading
Target oral language and concepts of print
Use pointing stick until level C (don’t use finger)
“You can take the stick, but you can’t take the finger.”
