2.  Read 2.1.1-83 aloud  Find and copy words and phrases that reveal Polonius’ values  Based on these what can you conclude about his character  List 3 adjectives to describe Polonius based on scene 1 and 2. Include lines from the scene to support each adjective (write the lines don’t just reference).

3. Pantomime what isn’t seen in 2.1.84-134 (“My lord, as I was sewing in my closet” to “And to the last bended their light on me”).  One reads while the others mime the prescribed actions, including adjustments to clothing

4.  What is Hamlet up to in this scene?  Why is he treating Ophelia this way?  Why Ophelia, of all people?  Does Hamlet love Ophelia?  If not, how does he show this?  If yes, what possible reasons could he have for putting on this show for her?  What about Ophelia-- Does she love Hamlet?  What is her reaction to his behavior  Try to pinpoint (lines) her feelings for him.

5. Read 2.2.187-338 (“How does my good Lord Hamlet?” to “Why did you laugh then, when I said man delights not me?”) and write in logs. If you have questions about words and/or images, look them up! Don’t remain ignorant. Language (tricks) is a crucial part of understanding Shakespeare. What is a fishmonger? What is a carrion? Why does he use these words?
