Systems in Technology Objectives: Define: system, component, troubleshooting, feedback, and automation Draw and label an open and closed loop systems model List advantages and disadvantages to each type of system
3
Definition: System- A combination of parts that work together as a whole.
4
3 Types: Mechanical Uses moving parts like motors, springs, etc. Electrical Uses electrical parts like wires, switches, etc. Fluid Pneumatic- Uses gasses Hydraulic- Uses Liquids
5
Definition: Component- One part of a system.
6
Definition: Troubleshooting- Trying to find the problem that needs to be fixed.
7
Definition: Feedback- Helpful information found by monitoring a system.
8
Definition: Automation- The automatic control of a process by a machine.
9
____ ____ System Input Process Output Desired result Where work gets done Actual results P.E.T.T.R.I.C. Open Loop
10
Open Loop Advantages Few parts, cheap, easier to troubleshoot. Open Loop Disadvantages Cannot adjust itself. You get whatever comes out! Lacks feedback control.
11
_____ _____ System Input Process Output Monitor Adjust Compare Closed Loop Systems have a Feedback Loop! Closed Loop
12
StepWhat happens at each step Input Desired result. Compare and Adjust Compares the output with the input. Adjusts only if needed. Process Where work gets done. Output Actual results Desired, undesired, expected, or unexpected. Monitor Sensors that observe the output.
13
Closed Loop Advantages Uses a feedback loop to adjust itself. Fewer mistakes. Closed Loop Disadvantages More parts, more expensive, troubleshooting more difficult.
