2 Microsoft Outlook is a tool that includes email, calendaring, and tasks.

3 All KSD students need to have equal access to electronic tools. Outlook is…  a 21 st century communication tool.  used in careers and higher education settings.  a way to meet the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).

4  Open Outlook by clicking on the program in your Start Menu or in your programs list.

5 …communicate and collaborate with teachers and classmates, giving them an authentic purpose for writing.

6  Create and send an email  Use the address book

7  On the Home tab, in the New group, click New E-mail.  If you need to respond to or send an email you have received, in the Respond group, click Reply, Reply All, or Forward.  Use Reply All and Forward with caution!

8  Type the person’s name in “To…”  Checking names  Correcting names

9  “To…” button  Sorted by last name  Students only filter  When you find the student’s name you need, click it once. Then click the “To  ” button to add the student to your email.

12  Appointments are activities that you schedule in your calendar.  On the Home tab, in the New group, click New Items and choose Appointment.

16  Files can be attached to an e-mail message.  In the message window, on the Message tab, in the Include group, click Attach File.

17  When someone else sends you a file, you can open it or save it.  To open an attachment, double-click the attachment.  To save an attachment, right- click the attachment, and then click Save As.

20  When you log into your laptop at school, you have immediate access to your email by opening Outlook.

21 Students are able to use KSD Outlook Web Access to access their accounts from home.

23 Students are limited to sending and receiving email only within the district.

24 Student email defaults the address book to a “student only” filter, but you may email teachers and other staff as well.

25 Mailbox size is restricted.

26 All use of student email must be:  in support of instruction, and  consistent with the mission and objectives of the Kent School District.

27 District-provided student email is a privilege.  Users agree to learn and comply with the KSD acceptable use procedures.  Violation of this policy will result in appropriate school discipline sanctions including, but not limited to:  Detentions  In/out of school suspensions  Loss of technology privileges

28 The content of email should be assumed to be public record and the property of Kent School District. KSD reserves the right to: Monitor Inspect Copy Review Store any and all communications, user files and documents.

29 As a representative of the school and community, exemplary behavior while using email should be practiced. Unacceptable use includes, but is not limited to:  Harassment, profanity, obscenity, racist terms  Cyber bullying, hate mail, discriminatory remarks  Non-education related forwards (e.g. jokes, chain letters, images)  Email for individual profit or gain, advertisement, or political activities

30  All electronic resources are to be used only by the authorized owner of the account.  Students need to protect their passwords, as email is accessible directly upon log in.  Any email created with a student log in and password is that student’s responsibility.
