Informational Meeting

BEST's mission is to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, and technology through participation in a sports- like, science and engineering-based robotics competition. We are a team environment and everyone’s input and contributions are valued. It will be hard work but it will also be rewarding!
3
BEST features two parallel competitions: A robotics game, which is based upon an annual theme with four teams competing at once in a series of three-minute, round-robin matches. The BEST Award, which is presented to the team that best embodies the concept of Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology. Elements include a project summary notebook, oral presentation, table display, and spirit and sportsmanship. Each school is provided kits of equipment and parts, a set of game rules, and given six weeks to design, build, and test a small Radio/Controlled (R/C) robot that outperforms other robots.

We will be competing in the SPSU Engineering Day(spring, if still offered) as well as the Georgia BEST competition as well as other competitions we feel we can be competitive. BEST Kickoff Day is September 13 th at SPSU! SEE campus MAP at SPSU website. It starts at 9 am!
5
This year we were asked to go to some local Elementary Schools to help them start Robotics Clubs We will get more info on this at a later date but it will be a great way to get service hours!
6
There is $15 due from each member. The money is used for tools or any materials that we need. We also purchase snacks/drinks, etc., for the competitions. Please bring dues by the second meeting. Check or cash. A receipt will be given for any monies collected.
7
The competition involves multiple events. You don’t have to work on the robot construction if that is not a strength. We invite all people to focus on their strengths and help the team. We will need people who can: Program, troubleshoot problems, manage resources, etc. Design, plan and observe. Help build the robot under supervision. Do Power Point or other programs for marketing presentations and other events for the BEST competition. Help design, build and run the team info booth at BEST events. Create the portfolio notebook. See example.
