pjm feb 05 Objectives By the end of the session the student will: 1.Be aware of the changes in resuscitation. guidelines. 2.Be competent in BLS in adult / child & infant. 3.Be able to place a victim in recovery position. 4.Be competent in the action for vomit. 5.Be competent in the treatment of choking in adult / child & infant.

pjm feb 05 Main Changes Diagnose cardiac arrest if unresponsive and not breathing normally. Place hands in the centre of the chest. Rescue breath over 1 sec rather than 2 sec. Ratio of compressions to ventilations 30:2 for all adult victims of sudden cardiac arrest. –Use this same ratio for children when attended by a lay rescuer. Adult, omit the initial 2 rescue breaths - 30 compressions immediately after cardiac arrest is diagnosed.

pjm feb 05 Action for Vomit 2. Lift the shoulder and roll casualty away from you. 1. Grip the chin securely and position the forearm along the centre of the chest, ensure your hand doesn’t obstruct the airway. 3. Use your knees to provide support on the casualties back & use your free hand to support the head. 4. Caution: Casualty may retch - so maintain firm grip on head.
