8 Role within AHQ DGRES-A: Undertake development activity that is focussed on the future development of capability within the Army Reserve

9 Tasks Contribute to development of The Army Plan, Parts 1 and 2 through the provision of Army Reserve specific advice and concepts. Contribute to, and if directed, lead Army Reserve future force development activities and initiatives. Provide Army representation and input to Joint Reserve working groups and forums. Maintain effective communication with key stakeholders and information exchange with ABCA(NZ) partners BPT Provide advice on all matters from a Reserve perspective.

12 Challenges & Initiatives Recruiting – Army Reserve recruiting performance FY 08-09: –OR 1377 / 1990 (69%), and –Officer 219 / 333 (66%) Strategic Reform Program –Achieve greater efficiencies through use of Reserves to deliver $346 M over 10 yrs Transfer of long lead time capabilities Operational & Organisational change –Cost the Reserve (PPOC) –Develop a Reserve Skills Database –Develop Sponsored Reserves

13 Challenges & Initiatives ANAO Audit. Report tabled in Parliament on 8 May 09. Recommended –Cost benefit vs local benefit of AR dispersed bases. Estate Companion Review – Assess cost of the Reserve to inform long term decision making Task undertaken in SRP – PPOC stream –Develop a civilian skills database for AR Task undertaken in SRP – Reserve Stream –Defence provide better access to IT systems for Reservist
