5. WHAT IS SOLAR PV  Solar photovoltaic (PV) is a process which turns sunlight into direct current DC electrical energy.  The DC energy is passed through an inverter and is converted to grid useable alternating current AC power.  There are two approaches: string inverter systems and micro-inverter systems.  System sizes vary.

6. THE MICRO-FIT PROGRAM  The Ontario government passed the Green Energy Act. The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) was directed to bring forth the Feed In Tariff (FIT) program.  Micro-FIT, which is for systems rated at 10kw or less, enables solar PV system operators to sell electricity onto the grid at 80.2 cents per kiloWatt hour.

7. MICRO-FIT  MICRO FIT contracts with the OPA are guaranteed for a period of 20 years.  Under MICRO FIT all power produced by the solar PV system is sold onto the grid.  Funding for larger systems (over 10kW) is available under the FIT program.

8. TIME LINES  Application IS MADE for FIT contract. Reference number received. Can take 30 days to receive conditional offer.  During this period application is made for building permit and electrical permit. Product is ordered, tentative installation booked.  Connection request is made to the Local Distribution Company (LDC).

9. TIME LINES  System is installed and inspected by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)  A connection agreement is signed with the LDC  The LDC provides details of the installation to the OPA and the OPA prepares a Micro-FIT Contract.  The Micro-FIT contract must be accepted by the applicant.

10. PEACE OF MIND  IES GUARANTEES ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF INSTALL.  MANUFACTURERS WARRANTIES ON THE MAJOR COMPNENTS OF YOUR SYSTEM ARE FOR LONGER PERIODS.  WE WANT YOU TO BE SATISFIED WITH YOUR SYSTEM AND WILL DO WHATEVER IS REASONABLEY POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE.
