5 Page The Migration Payment Traffic Switzerland initiative 5  What? The diversity of schemes, standards & formats for credit transfers, payment slips & direct debits is being harmonized – as much as the processing of interbank payments & of payments between banks and their customers is concerned.

6 Page The Migration Payment Traffic Switzerland initiative 6  How? Interconnected with the Swiss banks & software providers, various working groups of the financial center are aiming to implement the initiative in order to reduce & standardize the numbers of payments instruments for an even more effective, efficient & flexible payments processing.

In 2012, the decision was taken to stop supporting the current schemes, standards & formats for credit transfers as of the 2nd quarter 2018 payment slips as of 1 July 2020 The new schemes, standards & formats are to be introduced for: credit transfers as of 16 April 2015 payment slips as of 1 July 2018 direct debits as of 2016

8 Page The Migration Payment Traffic Switzerland initiative 8  Why? The initiative was triggered by the creation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), which currently consists of 34 European countries – including Switzerland. In SEPA, the former various national schemes, standards & formats were replaced by a unified set of instruments for the euro payment traffic.
