2 C OMPARATIVE A DJECTIVE The comparative form of an adjective compares two things or people. My sister is mean er than I am. My brother is tall er than I am. I am smart er than him. I am pretti er than her. I am young er than him or her.

3 S UPERLATIVE A DJECTIVE The superlative form of an adjective compares more than two things or people. My sister is the mean est person in my family. My brother is the tall est person in my family. My dad is the smart est person in my family. My mom is the pretti est person in my family. I am the young est person in my family.

5 C OMPARATIVE /S UPERLATIVE However, for most adjectives with two or more syllables the comparative and superlative are formed by adding more and most before the adjective. 6 C OMPARATIVE /S UPERLATIVE An adjective of three or more syllables uses less and least to form the negative comparative and superlative. Do you have shoe laces that are less traditional? (Negative Comparative) Vanessa is the least traditional member of the family. (Negative Superlative)

7 C OMPARATIVE /S UPERLATIVE Do not use more, most, less, or least before adjectives that already end with –er or –est. This is called a double comparison and is incorrect. This bike is more faster than my old bike. This bike is faster than my old bike. She is the least shortest in the class. She is the shortest in the class.
