1. Bricking the Mason 2x4 Evaporator
17 Full-sized Fire Brick
57 Half Bricks
2 one pound tubs of Heat Stop or other good quality refractory cement.

2. Brick the Floor
-Use full thickness bricks for the floor of the firebox.
-Don't use cement under the bricks-there is just enough room for 3 courses of bricks between these bricks and the bottom of the rail on the top of the arch. Any cement underneath will be too much and you'll have to cut the top course of bricks.

3. Cement the Floor of the Firebox
-Apply Heat Stop or other refractory cement to joints and between the bricks and arch around the edge.
-Again, do not put cement under the bricks.

4. Brick the Floor up on the Step
-Use ½ bricks.
-Start at the front of the step. Place the bricks flush with the face of the step (no overhang).
-Alternate cut bricks from side to side.
-Apply Heat Stop or other refractory cement to the brick joints. Push cement into gaps between bricks and arch.
-Do not apply cement under the bricks.

5. Brick the Front Wall -Use ½ bricks.
-Cut bricks to fit around the door.
-Do not apply cement to horizontal surfaces between bricks. Keep clean so that 3 courses will bring you flush with underside of the rail on the top of the arch.
-Apply cement between bricks and the arch.

6. Cement the Front Wall
-Push cement into gaps between the bricks and arch.
-Cement joints pushing into any gaps.
-Push cement between top of bricks and underside of rail.
-Be sure that you keep brick tops clean so that 3 courses just reaches the rail without cutting.

7. Cut Bricks to Fit Rear Wall
-Use ½ bricks
-Mark stovepipe with pencil and saw out hole.
-Do not apply cement to bottom of bricks!

8. Cement Rear Wall -Apply cement to gaps between bricks and arch.
-Apply cement to brick joints.
-Apply cement to backs of bricks where they sit against the arch.
-Apply cement where bricks meet the rail.

9. Brick the Sides -Use ½ bricks
-Keep brick bottoms clean and free of cement
-Alternate cut bricks and joints.
-Apply cement to back of bricks where they come against the arch.
-Apply cement to brick joints and push into any gaps.

10. Cut bricks for front of step
-Use ½ bricks
-Cement backs and bottoms of bricks.
-Apply cement to joints and push into any gaps.

11. Brick Up Wall to Push Flames Upward
BRICK WALL
-Use full brick or regular bricks
-3 courses should be high enough
-Apply cement to brick bottoms and joints.
-I added 1 course of leftover ½ bricks standing up to protect the sides. Do not extend to top if doing this.
