Common Uses 1. insulating base 2. temporary restoration 3. temporary cement 4. root canal sealer

Special Properties 1. Sedative effect on pulp-very important 2.Strong odor, offensive to patient; can burn tissue 3.Cannot be used with or near composite restoration: Eugenol retards setting Non-eugenol types are available

Variations in ZOE materials (cont’d) Type II: temporary restoration- Mixed as putty-like consistency Ratio- 1:1 IRM = intermediate restorative material Reinforced and lasts up to 12 months, if necessary

Clean-up 2x2 gauze with orange solvent or rubbing alcohol Immediately Use ultrasonic cleaner + temporary cement remover if material sets before clean-up
