3 WHAT ARE STAR EVENTS? STAR Events are an individual or group project that cover all of the areas within family and consumer sciences courses. There are 27 different categories that students can choose from that can easily be incorporated into class. Students can choose from: Nutrition and Wellness, Life Event Planning, Illustrated Talk, Interior Design, Focus on Children, Job Interview, Career Investigation, Entrepreneurship, and much more!

4 WHY STAR EVENTS? The rubrics are done for you! You can download the rubrics from the National Website and make it your own if you choose, or use the form exactly as it is from the website. Whether you have FCCLA members in class or not, ALL students can do a STAR Event for a class project. This is one of the BEST ways to teach students what FCCLA is all about! When students take ownership of their project and learn more about STAR Events, they become excited and what to join FCCLA!

5 WHY STAR EVENTS? When students finish their projects, you can pick out the BEST one in the category that you chose or they chose, and encourage them to take it one step further by joining FCCLA and by competing in their event at the District, State, and possibly, even the National level! If you are a new adviser or current adviser, practicing STAR Events in your classrooms only helps you learn! Practice makes perfect!

Students learn the amount of work it takes to stay within a budget and to piece together an event. College and Career Readiness – Job Interview Students learn about resumes, cover letters, and job applications to prepare them for their mock interviews.
