How should I dress? What’s appropriate?
6
Some companies have published policies, while others have unpublished dress policies. Find out. PERSONAL APPEARANCE OF EMPLOYEES (Dress Code Policy) Policy: It is the policy of the Company that each employee’s dress, grooming, and personal hygiene should be appropriate to the work situation. Comment: (1) Employees are expected at all times to present a professional, businesslike image to customers, prospects, and the public. Acceptable personal appearance, like proper maintenance of work areas, is an ongoing requirement of employment with the Company. (See MAINTENANCE OF WORK AREAS, Chapter 602.) Radical departures from conventional dress or personal grooming and hygiene standards are not permitted.

Why?
8
Companies require employees to dress in certain attire to: Project a professional image to customers, community, workplace, and potential employees Define what is appropriate for the job, setting, and safety
9
Dress Codes are protected by law "A person can be fired because the company doesn’t like your shoes,” explains Robert D. Lipman, who manages the New York employment firm Lipman & Plesur, LLP... “People say ‘This is America. We should be able to do what we want.’ But I tell them that once you walk into a private employers workplace, your rights are limited.”
