Objective: Given a starting location, SWBAT apply multiple translations, reflections and rotations to find Waldo’s location. Where’s Waldo?
2
Waldo starts out at (–3, 8). He is: 1.Reflected about the y-axis. 2.Translated by (x, y) (x + 2, y – 7) 3.Reflected about the x-axis. 4.Translated 3 units down and 1 unit right. WHERE’S WALDO??? (6, –4) 1 2 3 4 (3, 8)(–3, 8) (5, 1) (5, –1) (6, –4)
3
(8, 2) 1 2 3 4 Waldo starts out at (–7, 2). He is: 1.Reflected about the x-axis. 2.Translated by (x, y) (x + 5, y – 3) 3.Reflected about the origin. 4.Translated 6 units right and 3 units down. WHERE’S WALDO??? (–7, –2) (–7, 2) (–2, –5) (2, 5) (8, 2)

(2, –4) 1 2 3 4 Waldo starts out at (3, –1). He is: 1.Reflected about the line y = x. 2.Translated by (x, y) (x – 3, y – 1) 3.Rotated 90° counterclockwise. 4.Reflected about the y-axis. WHERE’S WALDO???
5
(4, 6) 1 2 3 4 Waldo starts out at (–2, –5). He is: 1.Rotated 90° clockwise. 2. Reflected about the origin. 3.Translated by (x, y) (x + 1, y + 6) 4.Rotated counterclockwise by 90°. 5.Reflected about the y-axis. WHERE’S WALDO??? 5

On a new piece of graph paper, create your own “Where’s _____________” puzzle. The rules are: 1.You can use any non-symmetrical shape (no squares, no circles) with at least 3 labeled corners or distinguishing features. 2.Your puzzle must contain at least one translation, reflection, and rotation step. 3.You must label all movements and steps in your solution (like we did today). 4.Pick the center point or one of the corner points in your shape. Label the coordinates of this point at each step of your puzzle. Homework:
