Objectives (1)To improve comprehension skills of the pupils; Pupils can answer questions in complete sentences. Pupils can answer questions carefully.

Hints on Improving Comprehension Skills (1)Don’t expect understand every single word in a passage. You can often guess the meaning of a word based on contextual clues;

(2)Pay attention to the tenses. Tenses tell you when somethings happened, is happening or will happen. In your answers, you should use the correct tenses. For example, Why did the children want to go home? ( You should use the past tense to answer the question. ) It was because it started to rain.

(3)When doing comprehension exercises, read the instructions carefully first to understand what to do. For example, i) Answer the questions with complete sentences. ii) Read the story/passage and answer the questions.

(4)Understand the common question words so that you know how to answer them. What Who Where When Whose Which Why

A Fortune- teller

Ben visited a temple yesterday. He met a fortune-teller there. Read the conversation between them.

Ben: I have a maths test next week. I’m not good at maths. Will I pass the test? Fortune-teller: I don’t think so. Ben: Can you tell me what kind of questions I will have ? Fortune-teller: No, it’s not right for me to do that. Ben: Will I make a lot of money when I grow up? Fortune-teller: Let me see. Oh, you won’t be very rich, but you will travel a lot. Ben: Will I become a tour guide? Fortune-teller: No, you will become a sailor. Ben: Will I be happy? Fortune-teller: Yes. You will marry a beautiful pop singer in Paris when you’re twenty-seven. You will have five children. Do you have any other questions ? Ben: Do you know I don’t have any money to pay you? Fortune-teller: What!
