His second voyage: Home Christopher Columbus sailed to Hispaniola in September 1493. she had 17 ships on this voyage. He had may supplies, horses and he came with a crew of 1200 men. Some of the men wanted to settle in Hispaniola some were sent to bring riches to Christopher. They set up a second settlement in Hispaniola and Christopher called it ‘ Isabella ‘ but the settlement was full of disease and many died in hundreds if not thousands. Columbus searched for gold but unfortunately he fell very ill and had to give up. Back at Hispaniola the Indians and the Spanish were fighting. The Indians had a big army but they only had spears as weapons. The Spanish had a small army of 200 soldiers but they had horses, swords and guns. The Indians were surprised as they had never seen horses before. The Spanish people won the war and claimed their victory Next

The king and queen sent a man called Bobadilla to see what was going on in south America. As Spain heard about a strange war and that all of the people had turned against Christopher. When Bobadilla arrived in south America he arrested columbus and sent him back to Spain. The King and queen told Christopher that he was not to go back to sea for two years. Christopher became a lonely man and started to draw maps again.

His ships Home Christopher had three main ships but he sailed on the Santa Maria witch was also the main flag ship. The sailors on board had their own night shifts to watch the ship, clean up and watch for land these shifts were four hours long so the ship boy had to turn over the hour glass. The captain slept on the poop deck and had his own separate cabin. The sailors often caught Scurvy witch is a disease you can still get scurvy if you don’t get enough vitamins and minerals. During the voyages Christopher took animals so the four legged animals had to be hung up in straps to make sure that they didn’t break their legs when the ship was rocking in the ocean. Ship pictures
