Monday, Oct. 10 Write the following vocabulary definitions on your own sheet of paper for the bellwork activity. 1. flimsy – (adj.) easily damaged or broken; not strongly made 2. initiation – (n, v) The act or ceremony that permits membership in a group 3. assurance - (n) Freedom from doubt; belief in yourself and your abilities. 4. wretched – (adj.) Very unhappy; full of misery. 5. burlap – (noun) a coarse cloth used for making sacks

Very unhappy; full of misery. 5. burlap – (noun) a coarse cloth used for making sacks 6. diction- Word choice intended to convey a certain effect. 7. euphemism- Substituted word or phrase to create a softer tone or to deceive. Ex: The dog passed away. 8. figurative language- Words/phrases that describe one thing in terms of something else, not to be taken literally. (Ex: metaphor, personification, and simile.)
