After 9/11 U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft provided Congress with a list of recommended changes to the law to combat terrorism. Many of these measures had been opposed because they were believed to infringe upon the rights of Americans. After 9/11, what would later be called “The PATRIOT Act was passed unanimously. George Bush praised this as a “new tool to fight the present danger.”

THE 4 TH AMENDMENT PROTECTS THE “RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO BE SECURE IN THEIR PERSONS, HOUSES, PAPERS, AND EFFECTS, AGAINST UNLAWFUL SEARCH AND SEIZURES…” THE 2 ND AMENDMENT GRANTS THE RIGHT TO BEAR AND KEEP ARMS, AND THE 1 ST AMENDMENT GIVES YOU THE FREEDOMS OF SPEECH, RELIGION, PRESS, PETITION, ASSEMBLY. READING RESEARCH- HOW DID THE PATRIOT ACT COMPROMISE THE RIGHTS PROVIDED BY THE 1 ST, 2 ND, AND 4 TH AMENDMENTS?
