Before we begin, what is an adjective? An adjective describes or modifies a noun. The blue notebook The smart boy The cute dog

What is different about French adjectives? French adjectives must agree with the noun they are modifying. This means that if the noun is masculine, the adjective has to be masculine. If the noun is feminine, the adjective has to be feminine.

Making an adjective feminine is easy! Most of the time, you just add an “e” to the masculine form of the adjective. Masculine Feminine blondblonde intelligentintelligente petitpetite Do not pronounce final consonant Pronounce the consonant sound

QUESTION! What happens if the adjective already ends in an “e?” Nothing changes! Don’t add an “e”… Masculine Feminine jeune timide sympathique riche jeune timide sympathique riche

There are exceptions to the “just add e” rule: MasculineFeminine beau gentil mignon canadien sportif belle gentille mignonne canadienne sportive There are many more than this. These are examples from this lesson.
